Physics updates from HERMES

چکیده
The HERMES collaboration presents two sets of recent results: the first related to an extraction of the g2 nucleon structure function determined for DIS on a polarised target and the second related to the measurement of asymmetries related to the deeply virtual Compton scattering process that can be used to discover information on generalised parton distributions and hence nucleon structure.

Transverse Spin Physics at Hermes
HERMES has measured azimuthal single-spin asymmetries of charged pions produced in deep-inelastic scattering of positrons on a transversely polarised hydrogen target. The presented azimuthal moments provide access to two yet unknown quark distribution functions, the transversity distribution function δq and the Sivers function f ⊥ 1T .
متن کاملTransverse Spin Physics at Hermes
Single–spin asymmetries in semi–inclusive pion production are measured by the HERMES experiment for the first time, with a transversely polarised hydrogen target. Two different sine–dependencies are extracted which can be related to the quark distributions transversity h1(x) and the Sivers function f ⊥ 1T (x).
متن کاملTAGGED NUCLEAR STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS WITH HERMES a Silvano Simula
The production of slow nucleons in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering off nuclei, A(e, e′N)X, is analyzed for kinematical conditions accessible at HERA with the HERMES detector. The sensitivity of the semi-inclusive cross section to possible medium-dependent modifications of the nucleon structure function is illustrated. To appear in the Proceedings of the Workshop on Future Phys...

متن کاملModular hp-FEM system HERMES and its application to Maxwell's equations
In this paper we introduce the high-performance modular finite element system HERMES, a multi-physics hp-FEM solver based on a novel approach where the finite element technology (mesh processing and adaptation, numerical quadrature, assembling and solution of the discrete problems, a-posteriori error estimation, etc.) is fully separated from the physics of the solved problems. The physics is re...
